First top party school ranking for UGA
UGA has been a Princeton party school 10 times since the rankings were started in 1992. This year, the university claimed the top spot for the first time. The small town of Athens, Ga. , as outlined by the Associated Press, has about 100 bars surrounding the UGA campus. Parties are part of student life from August to May each year. Many students gear up for the weekend on Thursdays and sometimes don’t rest until Monday morning. A UGA spokesman told AP that the list is not one the school wants to lead. He would rather emphasize the belief that other Princeton Review college ratings for instance the top 50 “Best Values” list and the “Green Honor Roll” of one of the most environmentally conscious campuses involved UGA.
State schools show up often within the Princeton party ratings
Freshman boys and girls bound for UGA may have gotten just a little more stoked about the fall term when the Princeton party school rankers were released, as outlined by AOL News. Following the usual pattern, state schools make up the majority of the top 10 in 2010. Ohio University in nearby Athens came in just behind UGA. Georgia beat out Pennsylvania State University, West Virginia University and University of Florida - which were the top Princeton party schools over the last three years.
Recent history earns UGA its top party school ranking
UGA topped the Princeton party school rankings despite launching a number of initiatives to curb student drinking and temper the school’s party image. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that UGA has implemented harsh penalties for student’s busted for drinking and violating tougher football game day tailgating rules. UGA tailgaters inundated the schools’ historic North Campus with about 70 tons of garbage after a September 2009 football game. Intoxicated revelers were seen urinating and defecating on the campus grounds. And previous athletic director Damon Evans resigned last month, shortly after his drunken driving arrest. Before Evans was arrested, he taped public service announcements for the university urging students not to drink and drive.
