Many students are filled with fear when a exam is announced. Examinations often cause panic from nervous or stressed out students. A major cause is stress for the student during exams. Students often study hour after hour sometimes cramming for days all driven by a fear of not doing well on exams.

Maybe knowing that a test is approaching is the worst part. Pressure can cause stress making it difficult to study effectively. To study successfully, and retain what you have read, requires extreme concentration. This is effective productive studying. You may not believe it now but effective studying by focusing better is not that simple to accomplish. Concentration is actually lessened for many unless they make a conscious effort to improve their focus for studying. An inability to concentrate on a single topic or subject even under distracting circumstances can cause loss of information that usually is needed for doing well in tests.

Improve focus and concentration by taking action on some simple steps. Finding a quiet place to study is a first step to assuring a good study session. Your computer is on your lap and the television is in front of you, turn the tv off for an improved study habit. Television distracts students more than anything.

Theses days, it is more than common to have music on on in the background or on a headset while studying, but it causes a distraction and actually detracts from optimal performance. You need a quiet place where you will not be disturbed by siblings or normal household activities. Some say they can study better with music on, but are really creating a distraction for themselves. When you find a quiet place to study, make sure that you will be comfortable and the lighting is adequate.

You do not want to strain your eyes trying to read, it will only give you a headache. Do not study in a garage or down in an unfinished basement as these locations can even distract you on a subconscious level. When you choose a place to study, it is not recommended that you study outdoors. On a beautiful spring day, you may find yourself taking a catnap instead of studying.  And you could also just text a friend, call your partner, see other friends driving by or any other reasons you should of stayed at a desk inside maybe the library.

Concentration can vary greatly depending on where you choose to study. Concentration during studying is optimized in conditions of well lit, quiet rooms with good air circulation possibly even an open window. A little stimulation from caffeine can be helpful but taken too much , detrimental. Focus is increased when studying one subject at a time. studying many different subjects can seriously add to confusion later when taking tests or exams.

An increased focus , single mindedness and good study habits early will convert long term into performing better on exams yet needing less preparatory study time to accomplish. Good Study Habits are easy to develop when you master concentration and focus. Your study habits will follow you through your adult life and profession. When you create good study habits, you also are increasing focus and concentration skills that are necessary in everyday life.
