Due to the increasing number of students who showed poor or below average performance during their freshman year in college, more and more programs and educational enhancements are conducted so as to increase students level of knowledge. Now with the presence of the SAT, or more commonly known as Scholastic Aptitude Test, more students are given a higher chance of having better knowledge and being prepared once they enter into the College level.
SAT, also known as the SAT Reasoning Test today, is a standardized test formulated for College aspirants in the United States. SAT is owned and developed by the College Board, a non- profit organization that aims to prepare every American College-to-be for their College education, by taking an exam to measure if they are already capable or not of taking it to the next level.
The Scholastic Aptitude Test consists mainly of three (3) major sections, namely Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing. The Critical Reading part includes 3 subparts, two of which are a 25-minute section and the other is a 20-minute section. The Critical Reading mostly involves sentence completions and questions on reading passages The Mathematics part, is further divide into 3 parts: one 20-minute section and two 25-minute section. Previously, students were not allowed to use calculators, now they are allowed to use a calculator to be able to save time in computing, as it is faster than doing it manually. Last but not the least is the Writing part, which involves essay writing and a multiple choice component. The essay covers 30% of the total score of the Writing section, while 70% goes to the multiple choice part. This section is included for the purpose of testing the students writing ability.
There is a deeper reason why the SAT exam was first formulated and came about because of these three major divisions included in the exam. The Critical Reading is included so as to be able to test the student’s vocabulary. The Mathematics section is included to test and enhance the student’s logical reasoning and problem solving skills. As was already mentioned earlier, the Writing part is included to measure the student’s writing ability.
It will take about 3 hours and 45 minutes to complete the SAT exam. Although most of the time, the whole process will also include miscellaneous procedures such as filling out the biographical sections, distribution of exam material, orientation and including timed breaks. The total time ends up lasting about four and a half hours overall. At the present, you have to pay to be able to sit the Scholastic Aptitude Test.
There has been some issues accompanied with the need to take the SAT for future College students, including the price needed to pay as a fee. Continuous efforts are being made to finalize and improve this College entrance exam, mainly for the purpose of enhancing the student’s College eligibility in the U.S. The public is increasingly showing positive feedback with regards to this procedure.
